Breeders/Rescues

The Calgary Lowriders Dachshund Club supports and encourages the responsible acquisition of animals and does not support the inexperienced breeding of dachshunds at any time.

We have compiled a list of breeders through trusted sources on the internet, as well as through recommendations from our own club members.

However, if you are looking for a purebred dachshund to join your family, please do your due diligence!

Ask the breeder questions, go to their home, ask to meet the parents of the litter (if they live at the home) so you can see their temperaments and condition first hand.  If your breeder tells you that “they don’t file the papers” (for some reason or another) with the CKC but that your dog is still a registered purebred even though you will never get the papers, that should be a red flag.

Responsible breeders usually charge more for their puppies, and there is good reason for it!  They spend a LOT of time and money on vet care, genetic/health testing for the parents, training, socialization, diet, and supplies to make sure that they are producing high quality, healthy, happy puppies from exceptionally healthy parents, born and raised in a good home. It costs a lot of money to be a good breeder!

The following document is from the CKC. It gives you tip on things to look for when buying a puppy from a breeder.
